About the Age Calculator

Works out an exact age in years, months and days using real calendar lengths rather than assuming every month has 30 days. Also shows totals in weeks, days and hours, the weekday you were born on, and how long until your next birthday.

How the exact age is calculated

The calculator counts whole years first, then whole months, then the days left over, borrowing the real length of the previous month rather than assuming 30 days. That is the same way people count age by hand, so someone born on 31 January is one month old on the last day of February, not on 3 March. Leap years are handled by the calendar itself, so a 29 February birthday works.

Age at a past or future date

Change the "age at date" field to find how old someone was on a particular day - for a form, a visa application or a school intake cut-off - or how old they will be on a date in the future. The totals in weeks, days and hours update with it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate age on a specific date?+

Enter the date of birth, then change the "age on" date from today to the date you need - a school cut-off, an exam or a visa form. The exact age in years, months and days on that date is shown at once.

How is the age worked out?+

Using real calendar lengths - actual month lengths and leap years - rather than assuming every month has thirty days. That is why the result can differ from a simple day-count divided by 365.

What else does it show?+

Totals in weeks, days and hours, the weekday you were born on, and how long is left until your next birthday.

Can I use it for something other than a birthday?+

Yes. It measures the gap between any two dates, so it works for anniversaries, notice periods, project durations or how old a document is.
