How do I work out a percentage increase?+
Use the third calculation and enter the old value first, then the new one. It divides the difference by the original - the step people most often get backwards by hand.
Why is a 50% rise followed by a 50% fall not back to the start?+
Because each percentage applies to a different base. 100 rises to 150, then 50% of 150 is 75. Percentages do not cancel out, which is exactly why this is worth checking.
