Reads the text out of a scanned PDF - a photograph of a page, where there is no text layer to extract - and hands back both the plain text and a searchable copy of the original. The searchable PDF looks identical but carries an invisible text layer underneath, so Ctrl+F finds words and the content can be copied. Recognition runs in your browser; the document is never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about the ocr pdf.

Why is the first run slow?+

It downloads the recognition data for the language you picked - roughly 15 MB. Your browser caches it, so every run after that starts immediately.

How accurate is it?+

On a clean, straight scan of ordinary printed text it is very good. Accuracy falls on faint photocopies, handwriting, unusual fonts and pages photographed at an angle. Picking the right language matters more than most people expect.

What is a searchable PDF?+

The same page image you started with, plus the recognised words placed invisibly on top of it. It looks unchanged, but text can now be searched, selected and copied - which is what most people actually want from OCR.

Is my document uploaded?+

No. The recogniser runs inside your browser. The file stays on your device, which is the point when the scan is a contract or an ID.
